 ‎‎NAF RECEIVES FIVE NEW HELICOPTERS AS FG ACCELERATES AIRPOWER MODERNISATION ‎ The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has taken delivery of five new helicopters as the Federal Government accelerates efforts to modernize Nigeria’s airpower capabilities and strengthen the Armed Forces’ capacity to respond effectively to contemporary security challenges.  ‎ ‎A statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame indicates that the platforms comprise three AW-109 Trekker B helicopters  and two H-125 helicopters. ‎ The three AW-109s, which form part of 10 recently acquired by the Federal Government, were received in Lagos on 15 September 2026, with the remaining seven expected to be delivered before the end of 2026. ‎ ‎The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, described the acquisition as another significant milestone in the Federal Government’s sustained investment in the modernization and re-equipment of the NAF noting that the new pl...

 Florida jet skier dies after being struck by lightning near Fort De Soto during severe storms

A jet skier died after being struck by lightning near Fort De Soto, Florida, as severe storms continued to threaten parts of the Southeast.

The incident occurred around 6:35 p.m. Saturday when an adult male jet skier was struck by lightning. He was taken to a hospital for treatment but later died.

The death comes as a stormy weather pattern continues across the Southeast, bringing the potential for heavy rain, strong winds and flooding. Forecasters expected much of the region to receive between 1 and 3 inches of rain by Monday.

Lightning remains a serious danger during summer storms. About 20 people are killed by lightning in the United States each year, while hundreds more suffer serious injuries.

Officials urge people outdoors to seek shelter as soon as they hear thunder. Lightning can strike far from the center of a storm and can remain a threat even when heavy rain is not falling nearby.
