 ‎‎NAF RECEIVES FIVE NEW HELICOPTERS AS FG ACCELERATES AIRPOWER MODERNISATION ‎ The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has taken delivery of five new helicopters as the Federal Government accelerates efforts to modernize Nigeria’s airpower capabilities and strengthen the Armed Forces’ capacity to respond effectively to contemporary security challenges.  ‎ ‎A statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame indicates that the platforms comprise three AW-109 Trekker B helicopters  and two H-125 helicopters. ‎ The three AW-109s, which form part of 10 recently acquired by the Federal Government, were received in Lagos on 15 September 2026, with the remaining seven expected to be delivered before the end of 2026. ‎ ‎The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, described the acquisition as another significant milestone in the Federal Government’s sustained investment in the modernization and re-equipment of the NAF noting that the new pl...

 LASG, OTHERS JOIN GLOBAL CELEBRATION OF WORLD SANGO FESTIVAL AT AAFIN OYO

The Lagos State Government, through the Council for Arts and Culture, joined dignitaries, cultural troupes and visitors from across the globe to celebrate the 2026 World Sango Festival, held on 15th August, 2026, at the historic Aafin Oyo, Oyo State.


The World Sango Festival honours Sango, the revered Yoruba deity of thunder and lightning and stands as one of the most profound expressions of Yoruba spirituality and identity, particularly for the people of Oyo.


This year’s edition featured a vibrant showcase of traditions, music, dance, and spiritual heritage. Guests experienced colourful royal processions, thunderous Bata and Dundun drumming, captivating masquerade performances, and ancestral storytelling that embody centuries of Yoruba history.


Speaking at the event, the Director/CEO, Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture, Mr. Olulowo Idowu Johnson, emphasised that the festival underscores the enduring legacy of Sango as a symbol of strength, justice, and cultural pride. 


Beyond its spiritual significance, the festival fosters unity, promotes tourism, and enhances global appreciation of African heritage.


As part of the celebration, the Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture Troupe delivered a special performance, presenting a spectacular display of Lagos artistry.


The performance highlighted the cultural bond between Lagos and Oyo while showcasing the diversity and vibrancy of Yoruba traditions to an international audience.


The Council reaffirmed its commitment to preserving, promoting, and projecting Yoruba culture both locally and globally through strategic partnerships and cultural exchange.


The 2026 World Sango Festival at Aafin Oyo once again reaffirmed Oyo as the spiritual home of Sango worship and a premier destination for cultural tourism in Nigeria.
