LASRRA TAKES RESIDENT REGISTRATION SENSITISATION CAMPAIGN TO AJAH, URGES RESIDENTS TO REGISTER
The Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) has taken its sensitisation campaign on the importance of resident registration to Ajah, Eti-Osa Local Government Area, urging residents to register and support the government’s efforts to plan effectively for the growing population of the State.
The sensitisation campaign and town hall meeting, held on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at Ajah, brought together traditional rulers, community leaders, market women, artisans, residents and other stakeholders to enlighten them on the roles and responsibilities of LASRRA and the benefits of resident registration.
Speaking at the event, the General Manager of LASRRA, Mrs. Bilikiss Adebiyi-Abisola, emphasised that every resident of Lagos counts and should be counted, noting that accurate resident data is essential for effective government planning and the delivery of social services.
She explained that LASRRA is expanding its registration activities beyond its conventional offices by taking registration closer to residents through communities, schools, markets, vaccination clinics and other locations where people regularly access essential services.
According to her, LASRRA registration starts from birth, adding that new systems and upgraded devices now make it possible to register babies conveniently, including at vaccination clinics, without compromising their safety and comfort.
Adebiyi-Abisola further highlighted the importance of LASRRA registration in accessing various Lagos State Government programmes and opportunities. She noted that registered residents can benefit from initiatives such as ILERA EKO, the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund and other government empowerment and social intervention programmes.
She also disclosed that LASRRA is supporting eligible residents with free registration for the ongoing Lagos State Trade Test, with slots available for artisans and skilled workers who meet the requirements.
The General Manager stated that LASRRA currently has more than seven million residents in its database and is working to increase the number through new registration initiatives, particularly in private schools and vaccination centres. She explained that the Agency recently commenced collaboration with the Office of Educational Quality Assurance to facilitate registration in private primary and secondary schools across the State.
Addressing concerns about the registration process, she reiterated that LASRRA registration is completely free and disclosed that the Agency operates a zero-tolerance policy towards agents who demand payment from residents. She urged anyone asked to pay for registration to report such incidents to the Agency for appropriate action.
She also dispelled misconceptions that LASRRA registration is primarily for taxation, stressing that the Agency's core responsibility is to provide accurate resident data to support government planning and service delivery.
On the role of traditional rulers and community leaders, Adebiyi-Abisola said LASRRA would continue to collaborate with them because of their closeness to residents and their ability to mobilise communities at the grassroots.
In his welcome address, the Oba of Ajah Ile and Okun Ajah, His Royal Majesty, Oba Kolawole Abdul-Lateef Lawal-Olumegbon, welcomed the LASRRA team to the community and urged residents to take advantage of the sensitisation programme by registering.
The traditional ruler noted that accurate population data would enable the government to better understand the needs of the fast-growing community and make informed decisions regarding the provision of healthcare, education, infrastructure and other essential services.
He called for stronger synergy between traditional institutions, community leaders and LASRRA, noting that community leaders could help communicate the benefits of registration and encourage residents who had not registered to do so.
The Oba also reassured residents who may have concerns about providing personal information that registration is aimed at promoting their welfare and helping the government understand and respond to their needs.
Speaking on the importance of registration, Supervisor, Lagos Division, Mrs. Hadizah Omoyele, representing the Head of Department, Registration, Mrs. Bolanle Lawal, explained that residents are required to provide a valid means of identification and proof of address for registration.
She listed acceptable identification documents to include the National Identification Number (NIN), international passport data page, driver's licence and voter's card. She added that residents who discover errors in their registration details can visit any LASRRA office for correction and validation.
She further explained that residents whose personal details or circumstances have changed, such as a change of name following marriage, can have their information updated after presenting relevant supporting documents.
Omoyele also disclosed that LASRRA provides support for residents who face language barriers during registration, ensuring that such residents receive assistance to complete the process accurately.
The sensitisation programme also featured an enlightenment session on the ILERA EKO Lagos State Health Insurance Scheme. The Area Coordinator, Eti-Osa Local Government East, Mr. Kehinde Adegunle, explained that the scheme provides residents with access to healthcare services through participating private and government health facilities and encouraged residents to register.
The LASRRA General Manager urged residents to take three key steps: register if they have not already done so, encourage family members, friends and neighbours to register, and help spread awareness about the importance of resident registration.
She stressed that reliable resident data would enable the Lagos State Government to move from estimation to evidence-based planning and ensure that services and opportunities are better aligned with the needs of communities.
The event featured an interactive question-and-answer session, during which residents raised questions on registration, validation, personal information, access to government programmes and the activities of LASRRA at the grassroots.
LASRRA reaffirmed its commitment to making resident registration more accessible, convenient and responsive as it continues to take registration closer to the people across Lagos State.
