 ‎‎NAF RECEIVES FIVE NEW HELICOPTERS AS FG ACCELERATES AIRPOWER MODERNISATION ‎ The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has taken delivery of five new helicopters as the Federal Government accelerates efforts to modernize Nigeria’s airpower capabilities and strengthen the Armed Forces’ capacity to respond effectively to contemporary security challenges.  ‎ ‎A statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame indicates that the platforms comprise three AW-109 Trekker B helicopters  and two H-125 helicopters. ‎ The three AW-109s, which form part of 10 recently acquired by the Federal Government, were received in Lagos on 15 September 2026, with the remaining seven expected to be delivered before the end of 2026. ‎ ‎The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, described the acquisition as another significant milestone in the Federal Government’s sustained investment in the modernization and re-equipment of the NAF noting that the new pl...

 Overnight mass shootings in Chicago and Trenton leave 3 dead and 18 injured

Three people were killed and 18 others wounded in separate overnight mass shootings in Chicago and Trenton, New Jersey, authorities said.

In Chicago, gunfire broke out around 11:37 p.m. Saturday at Washington Park in the Hyde Park neighborhood on the city's South Side as police were working to disperse a large gathering. A 35-year-old man was shot and taken to the University of Chicago Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Nine other people, including five men and four women between the ages of 23 and 45, were wounded and taken to area hospitals. No police officers were injured, and no arrests had been announced. Investigators said there may have been more than one shooter and were working to determine a motive.

Witness Terry Jones said he was attending a picnic in the park when the gunfire erupted. He initially thought the sound was fireworks before realizing people were scrambling for cover.

In Trenton, police responded to reports of multiple gunshots around 12:25 a.m. Sunday in the Greenwood & Hamilton neighborhood, south of downtown.

Two people were killed, and nine others were wounded in the shooting on Locust Street. The surviving victims were taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, though authorities did not immediately release information about their conditions.

No arrests were reported in the Trenton shooting. The Mercer County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Task Force is investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack.
