 How Bauchi Accountant-General Transferred State Funds to Private Company - Witness   Trial of the Accountant-General of Bauchi State, Sirajo Muhammed Jaja continued on Monday, September 21, 2026 at the Federal High Court in Abuja presided over by Justice Obiora Egwuatu with a witness revealing how Jaja diverted state funds to a private company. Jaja is facing prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC ,  alongside Aliyu Abubakar, Abubakar Muhammed Hafiz, Ari Manga and Muhammed Aminu Bose, for alleged corruption. The defendants are being prosecuted by the EFCC on an amended five-count charge of money laundering, diversion of public funds, and criminal misappropriation of funds to the tune of N1,635,270,350.9 (One Billion, Six Hundred and Thirty-five Million, Two Hundred and Seventy Thousand, Three Hundred and Fifty Naira, Nine Kobo). The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially announced the release of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for school candidates. The announcement has sparked a wave of anticipation and relief among millions of students, parents, and educators across the region who have been eagerly awaiting the outcomes of the crucial academic assessment.


Overview of the 2026 WASSCE Performance Metrics


According to the official statement released by the council, this year's examination recorded a commendable performance trend. A significant percentage of the candidates who sat for the examination secured credits and above in a minimum of five subjects, including the compulsory Core Mathematics and English Language.


Speaking at a press briefing, the Head of the National Office of WAEC commended both the educators and students for their dedication, noting that the overall pass rate reflects a steady improvement in the quality of teaching and learning across secondary schools. However, the council also emphasized the need for continued investment in educational infrastructure to sustain this upward trajectory.


Withheld Results and Examination Malpractice


While celebrating the successful release of the bulk of the results, WAEC also revealed that a certain percentage of candidates' results have been temporarily withheld. This action was taken due to reported cases of examination malpractice and administrative discrepancies during the conduct of the exams.


The council assured the public that its National Committee is actively investigating these cases. "We are committed to maintaining the integrity of our examinations. All candidates who are cleared of any wrongdoing will have their results released immediately after the investigations are concluded," the statement read.


Step-by-Step Guide: How to Check Your 2026 WASSCE Results


Candidates can now access their results online or via mobile services. To make the process seamless, WAEC has provided multiple channels for checking results:


• Via the Official Portal: Visit the official WAEC result checking website, enter your 10-digit candidate number, select the examination year (2026), choose the examination type, and input your e-PIN and serial number details to view your scorecard.

• Via SMS: Candidates can also retrieve their results by sending a specially formatted text message containing their examination details to the designated WAEC shortcode. Standard network charges apply.

As the academic year progresses, successful candidates are encouraged to immediately begin their tertiary institution admission processes, while those with pending results are advised to remain patient as the council works diligently to resolve all outstanding issues.
