 ‎‎NAF RECEIVES FIVE NEW HELICOPTERS AS FG ACCELERATES AIRPOWER MODERNISATION ‎ The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has taken delivery of five new helicopters as the Federal Government accelerates efforts to modernize Nigeria’s airpower capabilities and strengthen the Armed Forces’ capacity to respond effectively to contemporary security challenges.  ‎ ‎A statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame indicates that the platforms comprise three AW-109 Trekker B helicopters  and two H-125 helicopters. ‎ The three AW-109s, which form part of 10 recently acquired by the Federal Government, were received in Lagos on 15 September 2026, with the remaining seven expected to be delivered before the end of 2026. ‎ ‎The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, described the acquisition as another significant milestone in the Federal Government’s sustained investment in the modernization and re-equipment of the NAF noting that the new pl...

 Jamaica Takes Slavery Reparations Fight To King Charles As Delegation Arrives In UK


A Jamaican government delegation has arrived in the United Kingdom to formally present a landmark petition to King Charles III seeking legal guidance on Britain’s responsibility for slavery and its lasting consequences.


The delegation, led by Jamaica’s Culture Minister Olivia Grange, is expected to lodge the petition with the King on Monday.


Rather than directly demanding a financial payout from the monarch, Jamaica is asking King Charles, in his capacity as Jamaica’s head of state, to refer key legal questions to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council.


The petition seeks clarification on whether the forced transportation and enslavement of Africans in Jamaica was lawful, whether slavery constituted a crime against humanity, and whether Britain has a legal obligation to provide restitution for the harm caused by slavery and its enduring legacy.


Grange said the effects of slavery continue to affect Jamaica’s development, including education, healthcare and the country’s ability to respond to modern challenges such as climate change.


The move comes amid growing international pressure for former colonial powers to confront the legacy of transatlantic slavery and consider reparatory justice. A recent United Nations committee also said countries have obligations to consider reparations for the transatlantic slave trade.


The Jamaican delegation is also expected to hold discussions in Britain on the possible return of cultural artefacts taken from Jamaica.


The petition could mark a major new phase in the Caribbean nation’s long-running campaign for reparations and potentially influence similar demands across the Caribbean and Africa. (The Guardian)
