Kajuru: Fresh Terrorist Attack Claims One Life In Ugom Community

A fresh terrorist attack on Ehwakya Community, under Ugom in Maro Ward, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, has claimed the life of a 43-year-old man, Mr. Sonny Musa Joshua.

The attack reportedly occurred on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, throwing the community into mourning and renewing concerns over persistent insecurity in the area.

According to a statement issued by the Chairman of the Ugom Progressive Union (UPU), Onnusim Alhaji Ishaya, the latest incident occurred barely three weeks after another attack on Ihwosho (Ung/Rogo), another community under Ugom.

The August 18 attack reportedly resulted in the abduction of eight residents, including five women and three nursing children.

The UPU chairman said Ihwosho had previously been displaced by bandit attacks, forcing some residents to take refuge in the bushes while continuing their farming activities despite the security risks.

He said Ehwakya had also suffered repeated attacks over the years, describing the latest killing as part of a prolonged pattern of violence, kidnapping, displacement and destruction affecting communities in Ugom.

“During the attack, the terrorists shot and killed a young man, the late Mr. Sonny Musa Joshua, aged about 43 years,” Ishaya said.

The community leadership expressed concern over the continued attacks, saying residents had repeatedly appealed to government authorities and security agencies for protection.

The UPU called on the Federal Government, Kaduna State Government and security agencies to urgently strengthen security in Ugom and other affected communities.

It also appealed for the rescue of residents still being held captive and the restoration of displaced communities so that residents can safely return to their ancestral homes.

The union urged the authorities to treat the recurring attacks as an urgent humanitarian and security crisis, stressing that residents should be able to farm, raise their families and live without fear of abduction or violence.

The community leadership also expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and prayed for the repose of his soul.
