 ‎‎NAF RECEIVES FIVE NEW HELICOPTERS AS FG ACCELERATES AIRPOWER MODERNISATION ‎ The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has taken delivery of five new helicopters as the Federal Government accelerates efforts to modernize Nigeria’s airpower capabilities and strengthen the Armed Forces’ capacity to respond effectively to contemporary security challenges.  ‎ ‎A statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame indicates that the platforms comprise three AW-109 Trekker B helicopters  and two H-125 helicopters. ‎ The three AW-109s, which form part of 10 recently acquired by the Federal Government, were received in Lagos on 15 September 2026, with the remaining seven expected to be delivered before the end of 2026. ‎ ‎The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, described the acquisition as another significant milestone in the Federal Government’s sustained investment in the modernization and re-equipment of the NAF noting that the new pl...

 PRESS STATEMENT


The Abia State Police Command is aware of a viral video circulating on social media depicting the assault of a young lady and her brother by some armed men at Okigwe while they were reportedly en route to Abia State University.


While it is important to note that the matter is currently under investigation by the appropriate authorities, the Command considers it necessary to clarify the following:


1. Okigwe is not under the jurisdiction of the Abia State Police Command.

2. The armed men involved are not officers of the Abia State Police Command.

3. Preliminary findings, as well as information from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) covering the area in Imo State, affirm that the individuals involved are not police officers but members of a community vigilante group. The DPO has visited the scene of the incident, and the suspects have been apprehended. Investigation is ongoing, and we await an official statement from the Imo State Command.


The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, psc+, mnips, JP, reiterates that officers of the Abia State Police Command remain professional and disciplined in the discharge of their duties. He emphasizes that any officer found wanting in conduct or discipline will not be spared from appropriate disciplinary actions.


The Command further urges members of the public to refrain from spreading misinformation. Abians are advised to verify information from appropriate authorities before posting, liking, or sharing content on social media. The spread of unverified information can create unnecessary tension, erode public trust, and pose a threat to security.
