 U.N chief Guterres calls for countries fueling Sudan's war to be held accountable United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on Wednesday for countries providing weapons to the warring parties in Sudan that are used to attack civilians to be held accountable. "What is happening in Sudan is absolutely horrible. The humanitarian situation in Sudan is devastating. The level of suffering of the Sudanese people is intolerable," Guterres told reporters ahead of the annual gathering of world leaders at the United Nations in New York next week. Sudan's war, which erupted in April 2023 following a power struggle between the military and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, has displaced more than 14 million people and created one of the world's worst humanitarian crises.                 According to a security source {name withheld},Chadian forces killed seven Boko Haram militants in a clash today wednesday.''Boko Haram fighters in boats opened fire on our forces on the island of Tchoukou Dallah.Seven of the fighters were killed and there were others wounded'.For now we are still waiting for an official statement about today's killings.Chad said last week that it killed 117 Boko Haram fighters as part of a two week offensive on the lake that borders Nigeria,Niger and Cameroon.

A POLICEMAN LUKAS ABASHI,CRUSHED TO DEATH BY A TANKER YESTERDAY IN APAPA LAGOS.

               A police sergeant attached to the Taskforce for dismantling tanker traffic in Apapa area of Lagos was yesterday tuesday crushed to death by a tanker.The spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command,DSP Patricia Amadin,confirmed the incident to NAN,today wednesday.She said the deceased was identified as Lukas Abashi,and the driver of the vehicle with Reg No.ANC 66XA escaped after the accident.She said the policeman died at the spot after tanker ran over him.The driver attempted to escape with the vehicle,but for the intervention of other members of the taskforce who used motorcycles to pursue him.She said the policeman was on official duty as at the time of the accident,adding that the tanker has the inscription TOTAL.The body of the police man had been deposited in the mortuary,while the tanker was taken to a police station in Apapa.She further said that the police were still trailing the driver.

                           According to a statement issued by the Head of Service,Mrs Shade Jaji,the directive is part of efforts by the present administration to find a holistic solution to the issue of payment of pension entitlements to retirees under the Pay-as-You-Go pension Scheme which was discontinued in April,2007 as well as outstanding accrued pension rights due to retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme.Jaji said that the state Government has developed a comprehensive payment plan to resolve all outstanding pension issues in the immediate {short},medium and long terms.The short and immediate term plan,according to her,is for pension payments to MDAs and Parastatals including Local Governments and the State Universal Basic Education Board,SUBEB,which will be made monthly commencing from August 2015.The Head of Service said that these efforts were the outcome of painstaking deliberations by the Public S...

BOKO HARAM KILLED 8 PEOPLE,AND KIDNAP 100 IN CAMEROON TODAY.

                           At least eight people were killed today tuesday and about 100 others were kidnapped by suspected Boko Haram militants in an overnight raid on a village near Cameroon's northern border,a local government and a military source said.Tchakarmari,the village targeted early today tuesday,lies north of Maroua,where dozens of people were killed in a series of suicide bombings by the Nigerian Islamist group last month.The local government source in the far North region said ''Residents said the attacks headed back to Nigeria where Cameroon is not allowed to pursue them''.A Senior military officer deployed as part of a Cameroonian military operation aimed at curbing the spillover of violence from Boko Haram's stronghold in north-eastern Nigeria said the attackers had crossed over from Nigeria shortly after midnight.
