 TROOPS UNCOVER MASSIVE IED CACHE ON MARTE–DIKWA BRIDGE IN BORNO STATE Troops of Operation HADIN KAI in conjunction with members of the CJTF have uncovered a significant cache of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) emplaced by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists on the strategic bridge linking Marte and Dikwa in Borno State. The discovery was made by Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams deployed from both Marte and Dikwa Forward Operating Bases during a targeted clearance operation. So far, a total of 56 fully prepared IEDs have been safely recovered from the location. Controlled procedures are currently underway to render the remaining devices safe for complete recovery and disposal. This successful operation has prevented a potentially catastrophic attack and reaffirms the vigilance, expertise, and commitment of Nigerian troops in safeguarding key infrastructure and civilian lives within the North East theatre. Tears as Diogo Jota, brother's bodies arrive Portugal for burial.  The bodies of Portugal international, Diogo Jota, and his younger brother Andre, were met with a somber reception as heartbroken supporters lined the streets outside a church in Gondomar, northern Portugal, on Thursday night.  Local priest Jose Macedo told CNN that the funeral service is set for 10 am Saturday at Igreja Matriz in Gondomar. “We’re here to celebrate their lives and share the pain and Christian hope,” he said. Earlier, the bodies were taken to a funeral home in Puebla de Sanabria, Spain, where Jota’s agent, Jorge Mendes, was seen comforting the family. One more photo below. 

 INEC Clarifies CVR in Anambra Is Only for Nov. 8 Governorship Election INEC has announced that the Continuous Voter Registration in Anambra, starting July 8, applies only to the Nov. 8 governorship election. The exercise ends July 17 and excludes Senate and House bye-elections. INEC also warned against paying for registration, assured credible polls, and confirmed readiness with BVAS, materials, and security arrangements.

 TEMS FLOATS MUSIC ACADEMY FOR YOUNG WOMEN  Award-winning singer and producer, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, is launching a music academy to empower young women in the entertainment industry. Tems' new platform, Leading Vibe Initiative, launches in Lagos on August 8-9. Potential female artistes and songwriters as well as producers between the ages of 18-35 can apply.  KANO COURT SENTENCES TIK-TOKER TO JAIL FOR BATHING IN PUBLIC Magistrate Hadiza Muhammad Hassan of the Magistrate Court in Kano has sentenced a skitmaker and TikToker, Umar Hashim, famously known as Tsulange, to prison for bathing on a public road. In a viral comedy skit, Tsulange filmed himself wearing a woman’s undergarment and bathing on a public road in a video that garnered thousands of views and that angered conservative members of Kano State. Magistrate Hassan ruled that the content violated public decency and morality, and sentenced Tsulange to one year in jail, with an option of ₦80,000 fine.  The content creator was also ordered to pay ₦20,000 to the Kano State Censorship Board for legal proceedings and prosecution costs. 

 NMA REJECTS TINUBU'S PLAN TO EXPORT DOCTORS TO ST. LUCIA  The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has expressed its displeasure over President Bola Tinubu's proposal to send Nigerian doctors to St. Lucia. NMA Secretary General, Dr. Ben Egbo, said it is hypocritical for Tinubu to send Nigerian doctors to the Caribbean nation in a display of international generosity while doctors in Nigeria suffer abuse and neglect. Egbo said doctors in Nigeria migrate enmasse to Western countries because of unbearable suffering, poor remuneration, unserviced welfare packages and agreements, as well as hazardous work conditions.   “Exporting doctors while undermining their welfare at home is inexplicable,” the NMA said. “While we support international cooperation, we cannot continue to prioritise the interests of other nations over the welfare of our healthcare workers."

After an extensive investigation, the case was formally determined today, 3rd July 2025. A major part of the money involved in the incident has been successfully recovered from the erring officers and returned to the complainants, while arrangements are ongoing for the refund of the balance in due time.
