AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk.  Troops Rescue 7 Kidnapped Victims in Kano Raid — No Bandits Neutralized or Killed

Troops of 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating under Operation MESA in collaboration with the Nigerian Air Force and Nigeria Police, rescued seven kidnapped victims during a night operation in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State on 29 November 2025.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Captain Babatunde Zubairu, the troops received a distress call around 11:00 p.m. about bandit activity in Yankamaye Cikin Gari village. Upon arrival, they discovered that the bandits had already killed a 60-year-old woman and abducted several residents.

The joint team immediately pursued the fleeing bandits along their withdrawal route toward Rimaye, engaged them with heavy gunfire, and successfully freed seven captives. However, four other kidnapped victims remain unaccounted for.

The statement confirmed that no bandits were neutralized or killed during the encounter, as the assailants escaped toward Kankia Local Government Area in neighbouring Katsina State. Tracking operations are ongoing.

Commander of 3 Brigade commended the troops for their swift response and bravery, while urging the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.

The military assured residents that efforts are being intensified to locate the remaining victims and apprehend the fleeing bandits.
