Pete Hegseth humiliated as he struggles to complete bench press in front of soldiers

Video footage from Pete Hegseth’s recent visit to Guantanamo Bay has sparked ridicule online after showing the Defense Secretary struggling to bench press in front of U.S. soldiers.

Shared by the account Republicans Against Trump on X, the clip quickly drew widespread commentary, with many mocking his performance and contrasting it with the strength of the service members around him.

Some accused him of faking half‑reps before nearly collapsing, while others defended him against the criticism. The viral moment came during a trip to the base, which remains a key hub for U.S. military presence in the Caribbean.

Hegseth addressed troops about the importance of their mission and warned Cuba against pursuing advanced weaponry that could threaten the installation or the American homeland.

He cautioned that such moves would invite confrontation with the United States, though he did not specify what types of arms Cuba might be seeking.

Guantanamo Bay houses around 3,000 personnel and the detention camp for armed conflict detainees. Hegseth, who served there two decades ago, used the visit to reinforce U.S. resolve in the region.

Yet the weightlifting video overshadowed his remarks, fueling online debate and leaving him portrayed as out of his depth in the eyes of many viewers.
