The Federal Fire Service, FCT Command, has cautioned residents to take precautionary measures against flooding as rainfall intensifies across the Territory.
The FCT Controller, Muhammed Anas, urges residents, particularly those in low-lying areas, riverbanks and communities with poor drainage, to remain vigilant and avoid activities that worsen flooding.
These include dumping refuse in drains and waterways, building on floodplains or drainage channels, blocking drainage systems and indiscriminate excavation near rivers and streams.
The Command advises Residents to clear drains regularly, monitor weather alerts, avoid crossing flooded roads and waterways, keep children away from floodwaters and switch off electricity in flooded areas.
In the event of flooding, the Command urges residents to move to higher ground, avoid walking or driving through floodwaters, protect vulnerable persons and valuables, and contact emergency responders for assistance.
The Service also charges residents to return to affected areas only after they have been declared safe by the relevant authorities.
The Federal Fire Service emergency number is 0803 200 3557.
