Former Kennedy Center employees allege leadership delayed roof repairs before citing safety issues in closure decision Former Kennedy Center employees allege that the venue’s leadership knew about serious structural problems well before citing newly discovered hazards as the reason for its abrupt closure this month. The claims were outlined in a letter to Congress from a lawyer representing anonymous whistleblowers. The letter accuses the center’s executive director and chief operating officer, Matt Floca, of failing to prioritize roof repairs and stopping a funded repair plan in April. Floca disputes the allegations, saying recent inspections revealed that water damage had spread farther into the building than officials previously knew. In a September court declaration, Floca cited “acute risks to public safety” following an inspection that found deterioration in a roof terrace canopy and a partial ceiling collapse. Congo's Ebola infections cross 8,000, government says The ‌number of confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo has risen above 8,000 for the first ⁠time in the Central African country's ongoing outbreak, government data showed on Monday. The latest situation report from the public health institute put the number of cases at 8,067 and deaths at 3,901.

A Washington mother is behind bars after her downstairs neighbor called authorities when water was "pouring through his ceiling". Authorities discovered an 8-year-old girl, deceased, in an overflowing bathtub. The Spokane Fire Department responded to an apartment complex on Sunday, September 20th, to the report of water pouring through a resident's ceiling. The ensuing investigation would lead to an upstairs apartment where authorities were shocked to find an 8-year-old girl floating in an overflowing bathtub. The girl was pronounced deceased on the scene. The girl's mother, 23-year-old Travionna Johnson, was contacted at work and admitted to leaving the young girl home alone at 7 a.m. that morning to go to work.
