Anthony Fauci invokes Fifth Amendment during Senate hearing on COVID-19 origins and pandemic response questions Dr. Anthony Fauci invoked his Fifth Amendment rights Wednesday during a Senate hearing, refusing to answer questions about the COVID-19 pandemic, its origins and his actions while leading the nation’s response. Fauci appeared before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee as lawmakers examined issues surrounding the pandemic and his former role as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. In his opening remarks, Fauci said he made the decision on the advice of his attorneys, despite his long history of cooperating with Congress.
