The Latitude Air Ambulance Gulfstream G100 vanished early Saturday en route from Bermuda to Boston, dropping at least 9,000 feet in about two minutes before radio contact was lost, with the pilot declaring an emergency. Two Bermudians and four Canadians were aboard, and Coast Guard officials said Sunday the search and rescue remains active with the debris field about 20 miles south of the island.

That led to a $20 million contract paid for with Homeland Security funds. Trump was "eager to see the laudatory ads on the air," so he directed Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought to come up with the money from within the government, the Times reported Friday, citing 12 people familiar with the matter. On Sept. 19, OMB moved $20 million in Customs and Border Protection money into a budget category called "One Big Beautiful Bill Commemorative Events."  Russia has been striking Kyiv's Dnipro River bridges for four consecutive days, aiming to disrupt transport between the city's eastern and western banks.  On Sunday morning Oct. 4, 2026, a Russian drone hit the Pivnichnyi (Northern) Bridge for the second day in a row, damaging the road surface and trolleybus cables and injuring two people.  Video showed cars on the bridge when the drone exploded into a fireball and black smoke. The attack came hours after German Chancelor Friedrich Merz arrived in Kyiv on an unannounced visit to pledge further support.   The strikes have also targeted the Pivdennyi (Southern) Bridge repeatedly since Oct. 1-2, forcing full or partial closures of three of Kyiv's six road bridges and causing major traffic jams.  ONE DEAD AS TANKER OVERTURNS, CATCHES FIRE IN CROSS RIVER One person has been confirmed dead and another sustained serious injuries after a petroleum tanker overturned and caught fire opposite the Odukpani Local Government Secretariat in Cross River State on Saturday, October 4, 2026.  The Cross River Police Command said the tanker, which was conveying petroleum products, was involved in a road traffic accident before it burst into flames. The fire spread to nearby shops and buildings, and several vehicles were also affected.   The tanker driver was reportedly trapped in the fire but was rescued and taken to hospital for treatment.  Government forces seize capital of Ethiopia's Tigray region from rebels Ethiopian government forces and allied militias have regained control of the capital of Tigray, three sources told Reuters on Sunday, dealing a major setback to the ‌opposition alliance that rules the northern region. The Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF), which leads the opposition alliance, said in a statement posted on Facebook it had retreated from the capital and that the regional government would be "temporarily moved out of ⁠Mekelle and operate from somewhere else." The taking of Mekelle by pro-government forces is a major loss for the opposition alliance led by the TPLF, which launched a big offensive on September 23 against ⁠the Ethiopian military.
