Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported.  Akwa Ibom Governor Dissolves All Statutory and Non-Statutory Boards, Commissions

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has dissolved all statutory and non-statutory boards and commissions in the state with immediate effect, according to an announcement made on Thursday by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Enobong Uwah, in Uyo, the state capital.

The decision, enacted under the Statutory Boards (Special Provisions) Law, 2023, was communicated by Uwah, who directed chairpersons of the affected agencies to hand over all government property in their custody to the most senior officer in their respective establishments.

Uwah conveyed Governor Eno’s appreciation to the members of the dissolved boards and commissions for their contributions toward the state’s ARISE agenda. “The governor wishes members of the dissolved boards and commissions well in their future endeavours and commends them for the roles they have played,” the SSG stated.

The dissolution follows hints dropped by Governor Eno during a media briefing marking the 37th anniversary of Akwa Ibom’s creation in 2024. At the time, he indicated plans to dissolve the state executive council, including statutory and non-statutory boards, noting that the move would not surprise commissioners who had dedicated their efforts to the state’s development. He further mentioned awaiting “the right time” to hold a valedictory session to honor the contributions of commissioners and board members to the state’s growth.

The dissolution takes effect immediately, and no further details on the valedictory session were provided in the announcement.
