The Abia State Board of Internal Revenue Service (ABIRS) in partnership with Access Bank has officially rolled out its Market Digitalization Initiative aimed at modernizing revenue collection and enhancing transparency in markets across the state.
The rollout, which took place on Saturday at the Ariaria international market, Aba, was designed to identify and register traders, strengthen revenue collection, reduce leakages, and promote transparency and accountability.
Speaking on behalf of the Executive Chairman, the Secretary, Abia State Internal Revenue Service (ABIRS) Mrs. Eke Bridget said the initiative will simplify payment processes for traders, ensure accountability, and boost the state's Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
On his part, the ABIRS Head of Operation Emetu Mbah noted that the programme would ensure the easy collection of revenue in Abia state.
He added that the digital system would capture trader’s data, enable cashless payments, stop fake collectors and provide real-time monitoring of market revenues.
The ABIRS Audit and Investigation Director, Mrs. Ijeoma Onyeaso said the requirements for traders to get registered under the new Market Digitalization Initiative were very simple and clear.
The Board therefore solicited the cooperation and support of all stakeholders, adding that the initiative will be extended to other markets across the state. The rollout took place in 5 markets in Aba namely Ariaria Int'l market,Ngwa Rd market,Ekeoha Shopping plaza,Eziukwu and Ochendo shoe markets.
