LAWMA ARRESTS TRUCK OPERATOR FOR ILLEGAL DUMPING IN MAJIDUN

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has arrested a truck operator for allegedly dumping refuse at an unauthorised location around Majidun Bus Stop, Ikorodu, Lagos.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said that the enforcement operation was part of the Authority’s sustained efforts to stop the use of unauthorised locations for waste disposal and strengthen compliance with approved waste management practices across the State.

He said, “We will continue to intensify enforcement against illegal dumping, particularly where waste is deliberately taken to unauthorised locations. Waste generators and operators must use approved channels for disposal, as indiscriminate dumping undermines our collective efforts towards achieving a cleaner Lagos.”

The enforcement operation, led by Mr Oladeji Adebayo of the LAWMA Project WISE Team, was carried out on Friday, 2 October 2026, following the interception of a truck while it was discharging a substantial quantity of waste at the location.

The waste included construction-related debris, which had been deposited at the unauthorised location, contrary to proper waste management practices.

The truck and its operator were apprehended by the Project WISE team for appropriate enforcement action in accordance with LAWMA regulations.

The Authority reiterated its commitment to combining enforcement with public education and stakeholder engagement to promote responsible waste disposal and protect the environment.

LAWMA urged residents, businesses and waste generators to engage only approved waste management channels and desist from dumping waste on roads, drains, waterways and other unauthorised locations.
