 Court Jails 43 Internet Fraudsters in Awka The Enugu Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has secured the conviction and sentencing of forty-three (43) internet fraudsters before Justice Evelyn Anyadike of the Federal High Court sitting in Awka, Anambra State. The convicts are; Momoh Victor Abdulkareem, Paul Emmanuel, Adibe Henry, Okoroafor  Abuchi Gospel, Ikechukwu Ezra, Oduu Emmanuel Eyinna, Obasi Chibuike, Chimaobi Ogbonna, Nwankwo Emmanuel Ikechukwu, Aluma Chetachukwu Israel, Emeka Umendu, Ebuka Uka, Chikaodili Michael, Oramulu Nwabufor Michael, Obiajulu Philip Sorpuluchukwu, Iwu Ikedichukwu Emmanuel, Akachukwu Temple Odo, Ifeanyi Samuel, Kyrian Chikodili Ugwu and Nathaniel Oforbuike Nwoba.  EFCC Docks Fake Nurse for Alleged N28.2m  Fraud in Enugu The Enugu Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has arraigned one Blessing Amaka David-Agwa, a fake fertility nurse before Justice Mohammed Garba Umar of the Federal High Court sitting in Independence Layout, Enugu State. The defendant was arraigned on 45-count charges bordering on fraudulent impersonation, forgery and obtaining by false pretence to the tune of N28, 278, 600 (Twenty-eight Million, Two Hundred and Seventy-eight Thousand, Six Hundred Naira).  Abia Assembly urges federal, states to speed action on Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene road The Abia State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging the Federal Government to expedite action on rehabilitating the Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene Road. The House also unanimously urged the state government to rehabilitate the Olokoro-Amaoba Road to decongest the persistent traffic along the Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene Road pending its total reconstruction by the Federal Government. The call followed a motion of urgent public importance, sponsored by the member representing the Ikwuano state constituency, Hon. Boniface Isienyi. In his prayers, Ishienyi urged the House to resolve that the state government be encouraged to rehabilitate the Olokoro-Amaoba road.  Halima Abubakar slams AGN president with N30bn lawsuit Suspended Nollywood actress, Halima Abubakar, has filed a lawsuit against Emeka Rollas, the president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN. The actress also demanded N30bn from Rollas following the announcement of her suspension on his social media handle.  Abubakar was suspended over her alleged involvement in slandering Nollywood.  IMF downgrades Nigeria’s growth prospect to 2.9% The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has downgraded Nigeria’s growth prospects for 2024 to 2.9% from 3.3% while raising growth expectations to 3.2%, reflecting concerns over Nigeria’s ongoing macroeconomic challenges, particularly the effects of recent flooding and oil production setbacks. The fund, in its recently published World Economic Outlook (WEO), projected global economic growth in 2025 to remain unchanged at 3.2%. The projection for the global economy represents a decline of 0.1% from the fund’s earlier projection in July 2024. For Nigeria, the IMF’s recent GDP growth projection for 2025 represents a 0.2% increase from its earlier projection in July this year.
