 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. *File Photo: Activity at a vandalised oil pipe              Six suspects were arrested by special task force on anti pipeline vandalism unit,including a 65 year old man salami amodu who thought the petrol was holy water.The other people arrested  were bruce ekonen,joseph ofoeyeno,francis ode and kola ifatoye with about 100 gallons of PMS alleged to have been vandalized from Nigerian National Petroleum  Corporation ,NNPC pipe line at idimagboro in sagamu area of ogun state.The 65 year old baba claimed he was on his way back home when one alfa stopped him,promised to pay him N5,000 per trip if he can help him carry 10 gallons of liquid.he thought it was holy water so he didnt bother to ask since it 's a good business.it was while he was carrying the gallons that he percieved the odour of fuel.he was very angry at the alfa and wanted to off load the vehicle but realize that they were almost close to their destination  thats when he decided to continue.all the suspects will be arraigned in court at the end of all investigations.
