 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. 4 OF LCDA STAFF,ARRESTED FOR EXTORTION.

•Four staff of Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area, LCDA, arrested for allegedly extorting money from motorists under the guise that they are traffic officers         The four staff's arrested are Balogun Fatai,Ayo Fapohunda,Oyetunji Olabisi and Rahimi Kamilu of Ikosi,Isheri Local Council Development Area,LCDA,have been arrested for allegedly extorting money from motorist under the guise that they are traffic officers.In two days of their operation,the four suspects had extorted about N180,000 by finning motorist they arrested illegally.They met their water loo when they attempted to extort money from a motorist at Lagos toll gate.The motorist reported the matter at the task force office which led to the arrest of the suspected culprits.According to Tony Nanewodo,owner of mercedes Benz C-class 2013 model,was arrested at the toll gate for stopping to ease himself,but lamented that he was issued ticked for picking up a passenger on the road,an act he never committed.One of the suspect,Fatai,said they remit the money collected to the purse of the council and that the council employed the services of a consultant to help in collecting the money from motorists.
