 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. ANAMBRA & BORNO HAS THE HIGHEST RETURNEES FROM BANGUI AS NEMA APPEALS TO STATES TO COME PICK THEIR PEOPLE.

Another section of the returnees            Alhaji Mohammad Sani-Sidi,the Director General,National Emergency Management Agency {NEMA},has appealed to state governments whose indigenes were affected in the Bangui crisis,to collect them from the Hajj camp in Abuja.Sani-Sidi made the appeal today sunday in Abuja while on inspection of the Hajj camp where the evacucuee from Bangui central African Republic {CAR} are being accommodated.He said that prompt collection of the evacuee from the camp by the state governments whose indigenes were affected,would reduce their suffering.On friday,the DG also addressed the evacuees at the Nnamdi Azikiwe international Airport in Abuja,pledging the agency's willingness to work with State Emergency Management {SEMA} to re intergrate them into the society.Borno has the highest number of returnees with more than 300 returnees of the 1,113 evacuated between Jan 3 and Jan 4.Anambra was second with more than 280 returnees.Three injured evacuee are receiving tratment at the Nigeria Air force Base medical clinic on the Airport Road.Mr Umar Abubaka,an indegene of Borno,who is being treated for bullet wounds from the crisis in Bangui,said he was shot on the chest while trying to run to safety.
