 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. ECOWAS ADVISES WEST AFRICAN COUNTRIES TO RE-OPEN THEIR BORDERS,END FLIGHT BANS AND APPLY CONTAINMENT MEASURES FOR EBOLA.

            According to the Economic Community of West African states said today thursday that West African states should re-open their borders and end flight bans put in place to halt the spread of Ebola.The ECOWAS countries and airlines will make their own decisions on flight bans and borders,but the view of the main regional body,expressed at a meeting of ECOWAS health Ministers in Ghana's capital,is likely to prove influetial.According to Ghana's President,who is the current Chairman said in the meeting that ''We must implement containment measures that will isolate or ostracise the affected countries.Excessive restrictions of travel and border closures will adversely affect the economies of the sub region''.
