NAF RECEIVES FIVE NEW HELICOPTERS AS FG ACCELERATES AIRPOWER MODERNISATION The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has taken delivery of five new helicopters as the Federal Government accelerates efforts to modernize Nigeria’s airpower capabilities and strengthen the Armed Forces’ capacity to respond effectively to contemporary security challenges. A statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame indicates that the platforms comprise three AW-109 Trekker B helicopters and two H-125 helicopters. The three AW-109s, which form part of 10 recently acquired by the Federal Government, were received in Lagos on 15 September 2026, with the remaining seven expected to be delivered before the end of 2026. About 30 attackers arrived on motorbikes at the base in the Sikasso region near the Ivorian border waving a black flag and shouting ''Allahu Akbar'' {God is the Greatest}.The base was burnt to the ground and two people were confirmed dead.Colonel Souleymane Maiga,Director for Communication for the Malian army confirmed the attack that took place earlier today that ''Very early this morning,a police base in Misseni was attacked by armed men''.He did not give a death toll or comment on the identity of the attackers but said reinforcement had been deployed to the area.Mali erupted into violence in 2012 when Islamic militant group linked to al-Qaeda and Tuareg separatists joined forces to seize the desert north.A French led military operation a year later chased them out,although tensions and sporadic violence recur.
