 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. OSCAR PISTORIUS,TO BE RELEASED FROM JAIL,AUGUST 2015.

                         South African authorities said athlete Oscar Pistorius will be released on parole on August 2 after serving 10 months of a five year sentence for culpable homicide of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.The Olympic ad Paralympic track star is behind bars in the capital Pretoria,after being convicted last year October after a seven month trial.The release of Pistorius whose lower legs were amputated when he was a baby,had been largely expected under South African sentencing guidelines that say non-dangerous prisoners should spend only one sixth of a custodial sentence behind bars.A prison service statement said Pistorius would spend the remainder of his time under ''Correctional supervision'',a form of house arrest.His girlfriend 29 year old Reeva Steenkamp was a law graduate and a model,died on Valentine's Day in 2013 when Pistorius shot her through a locked toilet door at his luxury Pretoria home,but he claimed that he fired the gun by mistaken belief that an intruder was hiding behind the door.One more photo below.
