 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. BOKO HARAM SUNDAY ATTACK ON CAMEROON,LEFT 23 PEOPLE DEAD.

               According to the residents of the affected areas,said yesterday monday that suspected Boko Haram militants have killed more than 20 people including multiple children in their latest attack on northern Cameroon.They took the few soldiers posted at the targeted village by surprise.According to Pastor Edward Ngosu a Nigerian missionary who has been based in the village for four years said ''More than 80 assailants stormed the village of Kamouna,located near Lake Chad in the northern part of Cameroon that lies between Nigerian and Chad,on sunday night.Only seven soldiers were present at the time,and they were quickly overwhelmed.They began shooting in the air to scare the attackers,but were unsuccessful and 23 people were killed''.Residents had asked the military for more protection last week after suspected Boko Haram fighters conducted a raid near the village and stole livestock.Communications Minister Issa Tchiroma Bakary said yesterday monday that he had no information on the attack.
