HIV: RELIGIOUS LEADERS URGED TO LEAD FIGHT AGAINST STIGMA AS LSACA DRIVES COMMUNITY ACTION The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State AIDS Control Agency (LSACA), has called on religious leaders across the state to become champions of HIV prevention and advocates against HIV-related stigma within their communities. The call was made during a Sensitisation workshop for religious leaders on HIV and AIDS prevention and HIV-Related stigma held at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Alausa, Ikeja. Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of LSACA, Dr. Folakemi Animashaun highlighted the influential role faith leaders play in shaping public attitudes, promoting healthy behaviours, and fostering compassion for people living with HIV. Today sunday,it was confirmed that by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria {NAHCON} has confirmed that three Nigerian pilgrims sustained minor injuries in the crane crash in Mecca's Grand Mosque in Saudi Arabia.The Chairman of the commission,Mallam Abdullahi Muhtar,who made this known at a news conference in Abuja,said that the victims were responding to treatment in the Holy land.Mukhtar,who did not name the victims,however said that two were from Kaduna and one from Gombe.He expressed deep shock over the sad incident but assured that it would not affect this year's exercise in any way.Media report had said that 103 people died and over 200 people were injured in the incident.''On the commission'spart,we have advised the various states pilgrims board not to allow their pilgrims to go close to the Grand Mosque for now.They have adhered strictly to our directive and it is yielding positive results''.Mukhtar also disclosed that 53,800 pilgrims had so far been transported to Saudi Arabia as at saturday.He promised that the remaining prilgrims would be transported to the Holy land before the deadline of September 18.The picture above is a victim who died during the crash while he was praying.May his soul rest in peace.
