 Dolly Parton returns to public eye to celebrate opening day at Dollywood     Dolly Parton made her first public appearance in months to celebrate the opening day of Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, on Friday. The country music icon reflected on the past year, a year after the death of her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, saying she is “doing good” and has been working to rebuild herself spiritually, emotionally, and physically after grieving and dealing with health issues that kept her from touring. Joined on stage by Dollywood president Eugene Naughton, Parton brought her trademark humor to the crowd, joking about rumors of a new husband while reaffirming her devotion to Dean. She also shared updates on her ongoing projects, including a new Broadway musical and her Dolly’s Life of Many Colors Museum in Nashville. Parton previewed the park’s 41st season, highlighting the upcoming NightFlight Expedition ride, a new “Run Dollywood” race weekend, an updated ...

MEET THE FIRST WOMAN TO DRIVE AN AUTOMOBILE ACROSS THE U.S IN 1909.

                    Alice Ramsey,is the first woman to drive an automobile across the United States in 1909.The cars at that time had a top speed of approximately 15 mile per hour and most of the roads were very rough and primitive compared to modern day highways .It took 59 days for Alice Ramsey  and her 3 traveling companions to drive from New York to San Francisco.Alice Ramsey was born Alice Taylor Huyler.She was a 22 year old house wife and mother from Hackensack,New Jersey who began a 3,800 mile journey from Hell's Gate in Manhattan,New York t San Fransico,Carlifornia in a green Maxwell 30 on her 59 day trek.She was accompanied by two older sisters inlaw and another female friend,none of them could drive a car except her.The drive was originally meant as a publicity stunt for Maxwell Briscoa,the car maker at that time,because women were not encouraged to drive cars.Ramsey was named the ''Woman motorist of the century'' by AAA in 1960.In later years,she lived in West Convina,California,where in 1961 she wrote and published the story of her journey,''Veil Duster'' and ''Tire Iron''.She is married to congressman John R.Ramsey of Hackensack,New Jersey,on 10 January 1906 in Hackensack,New Jersey with whom she had two children.She died on September 10,1983 in Covina California.More photos below.
