Morocco places provinces on highest alert as wildfire spreads Morocco has placed nine provinces at the highest wildfire alert level as blazes continued to intensify over the past week, with satellite data showing that more than 4,100 hectares (10,131 acres) have burned since the start of the year. Data from the European Commission-backed Global Wildfire Information System (GWIS) showed that about 855 hectares (2,112 acres) burned over the past week, marking an increase from the previous week, Anadolu Agency reported. The system also detected 1,006 thermal anomalies across Morocco between Jan. 1 and Aug. 2, including 59 over the past week. Thermal anomalies are satellite-detected hotspots and do not necessarily represent separate wildfires, as the same fire may be detected more than once. The Nigerian police in Lagos paraded 42 suspects for their alleged involvement in various criminal activities in Lagos state.Among those paraded are suspected cultists arrested in various parts of the state,military impersonators,armed robbers and street urchins.They were paraded by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police,Fatai Owoseni at the State Police Command at Ikeja Lagos.Owoseni said the police have been making efforts to get rid of criminals by embarking on different strategies.He said the efforts paid off as many suspected criminals have been arrested and charged to various courts in the state.He said it was through the same efforts of the police that made the arrest of the suspects possible.He said that on 15 October,2015 a gang of armed robbers was arrested by the police at Agbati and Agodo area of Lagos following a tip off.The tip off led to the arrest of one of suspects,Lekan Jimoh who confessed and named Tayo Oyeleso as his gang member.He also said on the same month,three suspected armed robbers,Toheed Ashimiyu,Bala Mohammed and Segun Babatunde were arrested at Ashipa and Ayobo area of the state.Arms were also recovered from the suspects by the men of SARS.Etc.
