 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. READ WHY ROTIMI AMAECHI'S SCREENING WAS DEFERRED BY THE SENATE EARLIER TODAY.

                  Today wednesday,the Senate deferred the Screening of  ex Governor Rotimi Amaechi because of the inability of its Committee on Ethics,Privileges and Public Petitions to submit its report on the petition against him.The Chairman of the Committee Sen.Sam Anyanwu,while briefing the senate,said that the committee could not meet on tuesday folloing the late adjournment of plenary.Anyawu said that as at the time of adjournment of plenary,most of the members of the committee were too tired to meet.He promised that the committee would meet on wednesday so as to finalise the report on Amaechi and submit on thursday to enable his screening.Another source said that Amaechi's nomination is being opposed by ''Integrity Group'',which petitioned the Senate alleging that Amaechi had not answwered questions on alleged financial misappropriation when he was governor of River state.Although the Committee met on monday,they could not deliberate on the petion as the allegations contained in the petition were said to be before a court of competent jurisdiction.Among the nominees to be screened are Se.Chris Ngige,former Lagos state governor Babatunde Fashola and Ibe Kachikwu.One more photo below.
