BENUE BOOSTS CHILD PROTECTION WITH GRADUATION OF 60 UNICEF-BACKED SOCIAL WORKERS Benue State has taken a major step toward strengthening child protection and social welfare services with the graduation of 60 Auxiliary Social Workers (ASWs) trained to serve vulnerable children and families at the grassroots. The graduation ceremony, held on Wednesday, marked the successful completion of a programme jointly supported by the Benue State Government, the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), the Bureau of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and the Benue State Bureau for International Cooperation and Development (BICD). Speaking at the event themed “Building Community Resilience Through Professional Auxiliary Social Work,” the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Hon. 20 people were rescued by the Nigerian Army after they cleared four suspected Boko Haram camps in Borno.Colonel Tukur Gusau,the Media Coordinator,Operation Lafiya Dole stated this today saturday while briefing journalists in Maiduguri.He said that the rescued persons,including 14 children and 6 women,were held in captivity by the terrorists before they were rescued by the army.He said that the military had already provided medical and other necessary attention to the affected persons.He said the rescuee was part of the continuation of the military offensive to clear the Boko Haram terrorists from the North East.'' The troops of the 103 Battalion under 21 Brigade earrly on saturday conducted a 23 kilometer wide clearance operations in Rigaga and its adjourning villages in Bama axis.Four suspected Boko Haram terrorists enclaves along the route of the operation were cleared and a number of terrorists were killed.Two suspected terrorists were captured alive and currently undergoing interrogation in accordance with the Nigerian Army rules of engagement''.He further said that the army had also recovered materials for making Improvised Explosive Devise {IED} in other operations aroundd Lagaran Fulani and Ango Baya villages.
