 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. KOGI STATE GOVERNOR SACKS ALL THEIR PERMANENT SECRETARIES & HEAD OF PARASTATALS TODAY.

                   Alhaji Yahaya Bello,the Governor of Kogi state today monday directed all the permanent secretaries and heads of parastatals in the state civil service to immediately proceed on compulsory leave.A statement issued by the governor's Chief Press Secretary,Kingsley Fanwo,said the state Accountant General has been relieved of his position,while his second in command will proceed on 30 days compulsory leave.The statement reads ''I wish to confirm that His Excellency,Alhaji Yahaya Bello has directed that all permanent secretaries,heads of administration aare to go on compulsory leve with immediate effect.The only exemptions to this category are people on acting capacity and the permanent secretary,government house.Also the Accountant General has been relieved of his position,while the second in command will proceed on 30 days compulsory leave.At the local government level,the Directors of Local Government {DLGs},treasurers,education secretaries and cashiers are also to proceed on compulsory leave''.One more photo below.
