Dolly Parton returns to public eye to celebrate opening day at Dollywood Dolly Parton made her first public appearance in months to celebrate the opening day of Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, on Friday. The country music icon reflected on the past year, a year after the death of her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, saying she is “doing good” and has been working to rebuild herself spiritually, emotionally, and physically after grieving and dealing with health issues that kept her from touring. Joined on stage by Dollywood president Eugene Naughton, Parton brought her trademark humor to the crowd, joking about rumors of a new husband while reaffirming her devotion to Dean. She also shared updates on her ongoing projects, including a new Broadway musical and her Dolly’s Life of Many Colors Museum in Nashville. On May 18,Queen Elizabeth officially opened Parliament with a colourful series of events steeped in tradition.The State Opening of Parliament occurs at the begging of each Parliamentary year and is the only regular event to unite the three elements of legislature,the House of Lords,the House of Commons and The Queen together as the Crown in Parliament.Before either House can proceed to public business,The Queen must officially open Parliament by addressing both Houses in The Queen'd Speech.The Speech is not drafted by The Queen,but by the Government,outlining plans and future legislation.The Queen Presented The Queen's Medal for Music 2015 to Oliver Knussen CBE.The prize,established in 2005,is awarded to an outstanding individual or group of musicians who habe a major influence on the musical life of the nation.One of the most distinquished composer-conductors in the world today,Mr Knussen was awarded the Medal for Music last year and received his medal during an audience at Buckingham Palace yesterday morning.More photos below.
