 Meta to end end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages Meta is ending end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages, a feature the company says will no longer be available after May 8, 2026. Unlike WhatsApp, Instagram never offered encryption to all users or as a default; only select users in certain regions could opt in on a per-chat basis. A Meta spokesperson explained that the decision comes due to low adoption. “Very few people were opting in to end-to-end encrypted messaging in DMs, so we’re removing this option from Instagram in the coming months,” the spokesperson said. “Anyone who wants to keep messaging with end-to-end encryption can easily do that on WhatsApp.” Meta’s messaging strategy has shifted multiple times over the years. WhatsApp chats have been encrypted since 2016, and the company began rolling out default encryption for Messenger in 2023.               The EFCC today monday June 20,2016,arraigned Favour Omeigba Bello {F} before Justice {Prof} Chuka Augustine Obiozor of the Federal High Court of Lagos State,Ikoyi on 3 count charge bordering on attempt to export counterfeit,Possession of counterfeit and forgery.The accused,Bello was arrested by officials of the NDLEA on January 16,2016 at the Murtala Muhammed Internationall Airport,Ikeja,Lagos,during the outward clearance of passengers on Ethiopian Airline to Dubai and was later transferred t the EFCC for further investigation.Favour was alleged to have in her possession as at the time of arrest Two Hundred and Ninety Eight pieces counterfeited Traveler's cheques of various foreign banks,one Green Nigerian passport number A06961064 belonging to Aluya Mary Jennifer,one Green Ghanaian passport number G0843377 belonging to Koffi Nicole,one Driver's Licence bearing the name Okeke Charles,one National Identity card bearing the name Aluya Mary Jennifer,all concealed in three hard cover children drawing/picture book.More photos below.
