OP-ED: “Let President Muhammadu Buhari Rest In Peace” - By Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai The recent launch of a book on the life and legacy of our late leader, President Muhammadu Buhari, has stirred deep emotions and renewed divisions among those who once formed his inner circle. Having followed the headlines and images from the event, I felt compelled to make a simple but urgent appeal: let us allow President Buhari to rest in peace. A careful look at those who dominated the book launch revealed the same factional lines that existed during Buhari’s lifetime. One camp was prominently represented, while others—equally close to the late president—were excluded. This selective engagement compounded by the choice of location of the event were red flags, and raises concerns about whether Buhari’s legacy is now being shaped to serve narrow interests rather than historical truth. The arraignment of Nnenadi Ester Usman,a former Minister of Finance and Director of Finance PDP presidential Campaign Organisation in the last general elections along with Femi Fani-Kayode also a former Minister and Director Media/Publicity of the PDP presidential Campaign Organization,Danjuma Yusuf and Jointrust Dimensions Nigeria Limited by the EFCC at the Federal High Court,Ikoyi,Lagos could not hold today,June 21,2016,due to the absence of the presiding judge,Justice M.S Hassan who was said to be attending a workshop this week.The accused persons were scheduled to be arraigned on a 17-count charge bordering on conspiracy,stealing,corruption and making cash payments exceeding the amount authorized by law.The Commission's charge is in relation to about N4.9 billion Naira belonging to the Federal Government of Nigeria,but stolen and illegally disbursed for political and personal uses.The defendants who were present in court were later taken back to EFCC custody when it was clear that the court would not sit.However,the court registrar told anxious parties that a new date will be communicated to the counsels.More photos below.
