 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. Ebenezer and Olugbenga Isaiah} before Justice M.B Idris of the Federal High Court of Lagos State,Ikoyi on a 23 count charge bordering on concealing proceeds of crime,retaining the proceeds of crime and failing to furnish information.The first defendant,Waripamo-Owei Emmanuel Dudafa,the Senior Special Assistant of domestic/household and social events to the former President Goodluck Jonathan was alleged to have laundered ill gotten wealth to the tune of over N1.667,162,800.00 {One billion,six hundred and sixty seven million,one hundred and sixty two thousand,eight hundred Naira} while in office,through Ebiwise Resources Limited,Avalon Global Property Development Company Limited,Rotato Inter-Link Services Ltd accounts with the assistance of the second defendant,Iwejuo Joseph Nna,the account officer of the said accounts and presently a branch manager of a new generation bank.More photos below.
