 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. GOVERNOR AMBODE,APPOINTS 5 NEW PERMANENT SECRETARIES TODAY.

                 The Lagos State Governor,Mr Akinwun,i Ambode has approved the appointment of five new Permanent Secretaries and Tutor General in the State Public Service in furtherance of his administration's commitment towards strengthening the State Public Service for improvements in public service delivery.A statement issued on Monday by the Office of the State Head of Service,Mrs Olabowale Ademola listed the new Permanent Secretaries as Mrs Florence Ebunoluwa Oluwasuji who is now the Permanent Secretary/Tutor General,Education District V; Dr. Shamsideen Olalekan Allison,Permanent Secretary,Lagos State Primary Health Care Board {PHCB}; Engr Saliu Abidemi Adeyemi who takes over as the Permanent Secretary,Ministry of the Environment; Mr Senayon Adeola Hundeyin,Permanent Secretary,Ministry of Home Affairs and Mrs Yetunde Adefolahan Odejayi,Permanent Secretary,Deputy Governor's Office.Ademola wished the new Permanent Secretaries a rewarding and impactful tenure and also enjoined all Public Servants to accord them the deserved recognition and support required in their new responsibilities.The statement noted further that the appointments are with immediate effect.
