CJN Bans Lawyers, Court Officials to Stop Using ‘Barrister’ as Official Title The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has directed lawyers, court officials and other legal personnel to discontinue the use of “Barrister” as a prefix to their names in all official engagements at the Supreme Court. The directive was contained in a memorandum dated July 13, 2026, and signed by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Kabir Akanbi. The circular, which was addressed to litigation staff, legal practitioners, court registrars and lawyers, stated that the directive took immediate effect and was aimed at upholding professional standards within the apex court.                                 Aisha Wakil,a Nigerian lawyer declared wanted by the military on Sunday,is currently at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.Ms. Wakil is amongst three persons declared wanted by the Nigerian Army on sunday for alleged ties to Boko Haram.The three have maintained that they were not on the run and faulted the decision of the Army to declare them wanted,Ms Wakil told Premium Times she arrived at the Defence Headquarters moments ago,but was not immediately taken in for interrogation.Ms Wakil said front desk officers asked her what she wanted and she told them she was declared wanted yesterday.But the officers said they were not aware of such and she asked them to read the newspapers online.''They told me they will go and read and get back to me,'' Ms Wakil said .A few minutes later,a supervisor entered the reception to collect Ms Wskil's passport and told her he'll return 10 minutes later.The spokesman of the Nigerian Army,Sani Usman,confirmed to Premium Times that Mrs Wakil had submitted herself.''I have been reliably informed that she has reported at the Defence Headquarters and she has been directed to the Directorate of Military Intelligence'',Mr Usman said.The two other people declared wanted also say they were contacted earlier.They have also offered to make themselves available for questioning.
