STATEHOUSE PRESS RELEASE ENGINEERS FAROUK AHMED, GBENGA KOMOLAFE RESIGN, PRESIDENT TINUBU NOMINATES SUCCESSORS TO THE SENATE FOR APPROVAL President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked the Senate to approve the nominations of two new chief executives for the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC). The requests followed the resignation of Engineer Farouk Ahmed of the NMDPRA and Gbenga Komolafe of the NUPRC. Both officials were appointed in 2021 by former President Buhari to lead the two regulatory agencies created by the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA). To fill these positions, President Tinubu has written to the Senate, requesting expedited confirmation of Oritsemeyiwa Amanorisewo Eyesan as CEO of NUPRC and Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed as CEO of NMDPRA. A fatal accident involving a Toyota Hilux SUT and a bus conveying some students of Oko Poly has claimed the lives of 5 persons.According to our sources,the cause of the accident which occurred at the Umuokpala Road in Awgbu,Orumba North yesterday evening was due to over-speeding but an eyewitness account had it that the major cause of the accident was a goat which was said to be crossing the road.According to the eyewitness,the Hilux Truck which was driven by the first son of the Igwe of Mbaukwu who name was given as Emeka Anugwu tried to avoid hitting the said goat which was crossing into the highway and in the process,lost control and ran into the bus which was coming in the opposite direction.The driver of the bus and 5 students in the bus died in the scene of the accident while Prince Emeka Anugwu sustained various degrees of injury on his head.The survivors though injured were rushed to a nearby hospital where they are currently receiving treatment.Meanwhile,a group of sympathizers who gathered at the scene of the accident were said to have pounced on the goat and severed its head but it was noticed that the goat did not bleed at all.
