 STATEHOUSE PRESS RELEASE   ENGINEERS FAROUK AHMED, GBENGA KOMOLAFE RESIGN, PRESIDENT TINUBU NOMINATES SUCCESSORS TO THE SENATE FOR APPROVAL President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked the Senate to approve the nominations of two new chief executives for the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).   The requests followed the resignation of Engineer Farouk Ahmed of the NMDPRA and Gbenga Komolafe of the NUPRC. Both officials were appointed in 2021 by former President Buhari to lead the two regulatory agencies created by the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).   To fill these positions, President Tinubu has written to the Senate, requesting expedited confirmation of Oritsemeyiwa Amanorisewo Eyesan as CEO of NUPRC and Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed as CEO of NMDPRA.   The two nominees are seasoned professionals in the oil and gas industry.   Eyesan, a graduate of Economics f...

SARAKI SAYS THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY WILL HAVE TO AMEND THE LAWS ON POWER GENERATION IN NIGERIA.

Image may contain: sky, cloud, twilight, outdoor and nature                 President of the Nigerian Senate,Dr. Bukola Saraki says the National Assembly will have to amend the laws on power generation,transmission and distribution.According to Saraki,this will enable Nigeria replicate the feat recorded by the German Village,Feldheim,where residents combined efforts and local resources to produce clean and renewable energy.Senator Saraki in a statement by his Special Adviser {Media and Publicity},Yusuph Olaniyu,made the comment after inspecting the project in the energy self-sufficient village located 70 kilometres outside Berlin.''The achievement of the Germans is possible in Nigeria if only the leadership and the operators could be more serious and demonstrate the will power'' he said.He said the issue of power supply remains top in the agenda of the Senate as it is a key instrument for eradicating poverty and unleashing the potentials of the people.''That is why we had a workshop on the sector last month.It is also why we are here to see the experiment and success of the people of Feldheim and see what our people can learn from it.We have to amend the laws to allow communities to generate energy that is more than 10 megawatts and even the laws about power transmission and distribution have to be amended to allow more creativity and involvement from the Pribate sector''.
