Leaders of Aguata in Anambra State have lamented the lack of development of the area as compared to other areas in the state. They are angry that the government at all levels have failed to help the area to develop. They are equally accusing their elected representatives of not doing enough to attract relevant governmental attention to the area.In a summit held in Lagos recently and tagged ''Aguata Land: Agenda for Sustainable Development'',the leaders sent a ''Save our soul'' cry to the government of Chief Willie Obiano to come to their aid.The chief convener of the summit,Dr,Uche Ifediba, regretted the delillitating state of things in the area inspite of its known potentials. As he puts it,''these include large and arable landmass, huge population density and inexhaustable natural resources,''.Dr Ifediba was particularly worried about the merciless erosion ravaging almost all the communities in the area and wondered why nobody was doing anything about it.A leader of the area and Eze Ndi Igbo of Mushin LGA in Lagos.Eze Peter Uweh, decried the lack of government presence in Aguata and the deplorable state of infrastructure in the area including the Oba-Amichi-Okigwe road which traverses the area and which has been neglected for more than 14years.He regretted that in Aguata, there are no hospitals,electricity,pipe-borne water and other amenities and called on Governor Obiano and the Federal Government to correct the anomally. As he noted,''Aguata should be forgiven if it has offended anybody and should not be subjectecd to this level of criminal neglect''.He also pleaded with the sons and daughters of the area to bring some of their investments home,as government cannot do everything.
