 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. Image may contain: 1 person, close-up                  The Senator representing Osun West,Isiaka Adeleke,is dead.Mr Adeleke,aged 62,died today sunday morning at a hospital in Osogbo,the Osun State capital,hours after he engaged in a political meeting which terminated late Saturday.Until his death,Mr Adeleke Chaired the Senate committee on capital market.He was in the Senate for the second time,having first represented Osun West between 2007 and 2011 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.He could not return to the Senate in 2011,after he was defeated by Mudashiru Hussein of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria.But in 2014,after a failed governorship bid,he defected to the All Progressives Congress which sponsored him to contest the 2015 Osun West senatorial election which he won to earn a second time in the Senate.Mr Adeleke became the first elected Governor of Odun State in 1991 on the platform of the Social Democratic Party.He sponsored a bill to protect whostleblowers and security informants.May his soul rest in peace.
