 LASG HOSTS Y2024 WOMEN'S ASSEMBLY TO EMPOWER, CELEBRATE WOMEN Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to advancing and empowering women, describing them as the pillars of communities, contributing in numerous ways as mothers, entrepreneurs, educators and leaders.  Governor Sanwo-Olu stated this in his keynote address at the 2024 Women's Assembly for Local Government and Local Council Development Areas organised by the Ministry of Women's Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) at the De Blue Roof, LTV 8 complex, Agindigbi Ikeja.  The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Governor, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, described the Assembly as a critical platform for celebrating women’s contributions and tackling challenges affecting their well-being. Image may contain: 2 people, people standing and shoes                                                       The Rivers State Police Commissioner,Mr Zaki Ahmed has expressed satisfaction and delight in the efforts of the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,EFCC,Mr Ibrahim Magu,in ridding the nation of corrupt practices.According to him,Magu's efforts have brought pride and honour to the Nigeria Police and Nigerians in general.Ahmed gave this commedation yesterday monday in Port Harcourt,Rivers State,when Magu paid him a courtesy call.''You are doing a good job and we are proud of you.Corruption is a monster.It has tried to destroy the nation but with your efforts and efforts of your men,we will overcome it.Someone doing a good job like you must be faced with so many obstacles but by the grace of God,you will overcome them'',he said.Magu was in the Port Harcourt's Zonal office of the EFCC on a one-day working visit.Aside his courtesy call on the Police Commissioner,he also visited the Chief Judge of Rivers State,Justice Iyayi Laminkara.The visit yielded useful exchange of ideas on how to improve on the prosecution of EFCC'S cases.Justice Laminkara reiterated her disposition and commitments to expeditious trial of corruption cases.''To this effecr,there are judges that we have designated for such cases and we are making progress in this regard'',she said.Magu was accompanied on the visits by the Port Harcourt's Zonal Head,Mr Salihu Ishaq and Head,Public Affairs of the Zone,Mr Dele Oyewale among other officers.More photos below.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
