 M23 says hundreds of Burundi soldiers captured in latest Congo offensive The Rwanda-backed M23 group has captured hundreds of Burundian soldiers during its latest offensive in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a rebel official said, as clashes continued despite a warning from the Trump administration. Last week M23 entered the strategic town of Uvira near the border with Burundi, less than a week after the presidents of Congo and Rwanda met in Washington with U.S. President Donald Trump and affirmed their commitment to a peace deal known as the Washington Accords. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Saturday that Rwanda's actions in eastern Congo violated the Washington Accords and vowed to "take action to ensure promises made to the President are kept". Rwanda denies supporting M23 and has blamed Congolese and Burundian forces for the renewed fighting.        The new counsel for Senator Joshua Dariye, Kanu Agabi, SAN, finally closed the case of the defence, on October 10, 2017 bringing to a close a defence that began on June 10, 2016.
Agabi who was used by Dariye to replace G.S. Pwul, SAN, his former counsel who withdrew in March, told Justice Adebukola Banjoko, that the defence was ready to address the court.“My lord, I am pleased to inform your lordship that we are closing the case for the defence and will like to address you,” Agabi said.The prosecution, led by O.A. Atolagbe, raised no objections.“We have no objection to that, and we are also grateful to address your lordship,” Atolagbe said.Atolagbe, thereafter, urged the court to vacate a subsisting order, based on the request of the defence when it was led by Pwul, asking for the recall of the first prosecution witness, Musa Sunday, an EFCC operative, who was also present in court.The defence raised no objections to the oral application of the prosecution.
