 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. INTERIOR MINISTER COMMISSIONED FIRE TRUCKS TODAY IN LAGOS.{PHOTOS}

    Disturbed by the colossal loss of valuable properties to fire outbreaks in markets and other business locations in Lagos, and other parts of Nigeria, the Honourable Minister of Interior, Lt Gen (Rtd), Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau CFR, PhD has upgraded the fire fighting capability of the Federal Fire Service in Lagos State.
The commissioning of newly procured fire fighting trucks, water tankers and other fire fighting equipment in Lagos by the Interior Minister was applauded by the Government and people of Lagos State.The Interior Minister, who described the invaluable loss of goods and equipment to inferno in Lagos and other parts of Nigeria as highly regrettable also lamented the near neglect of the Federal Fire Service in the past. He also used the occasion to thank President Muhammandu Buhari for approving funds for the purchase of fire trucks, water tankers and other fire fighting equipment, which are being used to upgrade the services in Abuja, Lagos and some selected states in Nigeria after decades of neglect.
While thanking the Government and people of Lagos State for keeping faith with the President Muhammandu Buhari’s led administration, he assured the people of Lagos State, of government’s commitments to securing them from inferno and sundry criminalities.
Speaking further, the Minister said the Federal Executive Council has also approved the establishment of zonal Federal Fire Services in the six geopolitical zones, and that the Ministry is liaising with beneficiary state governors for the provision of lands for commencement of the projects. He also used the opportunity to admonished men of the service to take advantage of the Federal Fire Training Academy in Abuja, which has been upgraded to a diploma awarding institution, to build their operational know-how.
The Controller General of the Federal Service, Engineer Joseph Garba Anebi, who was the host, pledged his commitment to ensure professional utilization of the equipment.
