 M23 says hundreds of Burundi soldiers captured in latest Congo offensive The Rwanda-backed M23 group has captured hundreds of Burundian soldiers during its latest offensive in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a rebel official said, as clashes continued despite a warning from the Trump administration. Last week M23 entered the strategic town of Uvira near the border with Burundi, less than a week after the presidents of Congo and Rwanda met in Washington with U.S. President Donald Trump and affirmed their commitment to a peace deal known as the Washington Accords. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Saturday that Rwanda's actions in eastern Congo violated the Washington Accords and vowed to "take action to ensure promises made to the President are kept". Rwanda denies supporting M23 and has blamed Congolese and Burundian forces for the renewed fighting. ARMY AVERTS COMMUNAL CLASHES OVER DISPUTED LAND IN GOMBE STATE.{PHOTO}.PRESS RELEASE.

    1. Troops of 301 Artillery Regiment (General Support) averted a communal clash over a disputed land between Biliri and Shongom Local Government Area of Gombe State following a timely intervention.
2. Troops immediately mobilised to the troubled spots on getting the information about the impending crisis.
3. 10 suspects believed to be the masterminds of the trouble were arrested by the troops.
4. Items recovered include;
a. One AK 47 rifle loaded with 28 rounds of 7.62 mm (Special) ammunition.
b. One G3 rifle loaded with 21 rounds of 7.62 mm (Special) ammunition.
c. One double barrel gun.
d. 10 locally fabricated guns.
e. 39 cartridges.
f. Three Knives.
g. Four knock out bangers.
h. One round of 9mm ammunition.
i. Bottles of gun powders.
j. Locally fabricated rounds.
k. Assorted charms.
5. Members of the general public is once more reminded to report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest security agency for prompt action.
