PRESS STATEMENT
Nigeria Customs Service records improved performance in 2018 year reports with revenue collection of N556,774,889,977.64 and 1927 seizures as against N486,728,302,625.150 and 3798 seizures from January to June 2017. This shows increasing level of compliance, giving rise to more revenue and less seizures.
Some strategic actions taken that were responsible for the positive difference of N70,046,587,352.54 include:
1. Blockage of identified revenue leakages by the Tariff and Trade Department.
2. Introduction of Nigeria Integrated Customs Information System II, (NICIS II).
3. Trade analysis and timely audit of the system to enhance revenue collection among others.
The Service has continued to resharpen its anti smuggling strategies resulting in spectacular seizures of arms, and ammunitions, illicit drugs, rice, vehicles e.t.c.
Unfortunately, the sustained onslaughts against smugglers have made them desperate and more inclined to mobilizing people to attack Customs Operatives.
This ugly development clearly shows how little smugglers value National Economy and Security.
Consequently, the CGC has warned that henceforth NCS will not treat with levity any further attack on its Operatives who are discharging their statutory functions. In such situation officers will not hesitate to use appropriate force to defend themselves and protect national interest.
