 U.S imposes sanctions on former Congo President Joseph Kabila The United States on Thursday imposed sanctions on former Democratic Republic of Congo President Joseph Kabila for his support of ‌Rwanda-backed M23 rebels and for fueling political instability in Congo's troubled east. The U.S. Treasury Department said M23 and its political-military arm, the Congo River Alliance (AFC), had been stoking violent conflict in eastern DRC, resulting in the deaths of thousands of civilians and a mass displacement crisis. Treasury said Kabila had provided financial support to the ​AFC in order to influence the political situation in eastern DRC, while encouraging DRC troops to defect and join AFC forces. ​It said Kabila was working to regain influence over the government by backing a candidate opposed to the current ⁠leader. FINAL UPDATE ON DAMASAK ATTACK.{PHOTOS}.#PRESS RELEASE.

     1. In continuation of the earlier release by the Nigerian Army, on attack to 145 Battalion location by Boko Haram Terrorists at DAMASAK at about 6pm yesterday evening Wednesday 12 September 2018.
2. In the release, members of the general public were informed that fierce battle is on between the troops and Boko Haram Terrorists.
3. Nigerian Army also issued a statement late yesterday night, to correct a publication by the SAHARA REPORTERS published in the Social Media (Online).
4. The publication claimed that "BOKO HARAM CAPTURES DAMASAK 24 HOURS AFTER BURATAI'S VISIT". The Nigerian Army therefore, issued a statement and informed the general public and the world at large that, troops of 145 Battalion in DAMASAK Borno State are engaging Boko Haram Terrorists.
5. The statement also said that, the terrorists were subdued following a superior fire power of troops in DAMASAK.
6. The Nigerian Army wishes to state that, 145 Battalion deployed in Operation LAFIYA DOLE at DAMASAK, Mobar Local Government Area of Borno State on 12 September 2018, inflicted many casualties on the Boko Haram Terrorists and their weapons as well as vehicles were captured and some where destroyed during the encounter.
7. Seven (7) members of the terrorists group were neutralised during the encounter while others flee into the nearby bush.
8. Items recovered include:
a. Two vehicles.
b. One Anti Aircraft Gun.
c. Four AK 47 rifles.
d. Seven (7) magazines.
e. Two Hand Grenades.
f. One bayonet.
g. 47 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
h. 174 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition.
9. Efforts are on by the troops to get other fleeing members of the group.
10. Unfortunately, seven (7) soldiers sustained injuries during the attack.
11. The wounded soldiers have been evacuated to the military medical facility for attention.
12. Residents of the area are advised to report any suspicious movements or activities to the law enforcement agents for prompt action.
