 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. ARMY ENCOUNTERS BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS IN BORNO STATE.{PHOTO}.#PRESS RELEASE.

    1. Troops of Sector 3 Operation LAFIYA DOLE deployed at Mairari in conjunction with Civilian Joint Task Force while on routine patrol in Mairari and environs on Sunday 7 October 2018 encountered suspected Boko Haram terrorists.
2. A member of the Boko Haram terrorists was neutralised while several others fled into nearby bushes with gunshot injuries during the encounter.
3. Items recovered include:
a. One AK47 rifle.
b. Four Magazines.
c. One 36 Hand Grenade.
d. 13 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
4. Unfortunately, a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force sustained gunshot wound and has since been evacuated to Sector 3 medical facility for attention.
5. The public is therefore advised to report any suspicious movements or activities in their area to security agency for prompt action.
